A WOMAN has been raped whilst on her way home from a night out in Manchester’s Northern Quarter.

Detectives believe the victim, 26, was attacked after being followed home on the number 42 bus, which she had caught from Piccadilly Bus Station in the early hours of Sunday morning.

The attack is believed to have taken place on the drive of an address on Cotton Lane in the Withington area of Greater Manchester, between the hours of 1am and 2am.

The rape incident lasted for approximately 60 minutes, not long after the victim had disembarked the night bus, and the attacker is thought to have made off on foot following the attack.

Detective Mark Willdigg of South Manchester CID believes that the offender may have been disturbed during the attack by a person who walked past the driveway.

Anyone with any information should call Greater Manchester Police on 0161 872 5050 or the independent charity Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
