ON the same night when ordinary people were being honoured at the Pride of Britain Awards, businesses and individuals were picking up their own accolades at the North West Finance Awards.
The sixth staging of the ceremony attracted a record audience at Bolton’s Macron Stadium as 16 prizes were handed out on Thursday evening to celebrate the unsung heroes of finance and accounting across the region.
Among the winners were Tameside Hospital in the Purchase Ledger Team category, the Bolton NHS Foundation Trust as Large Finance team of the year and Emily Cookson of Mossley Tax Shop for Assistant Accountant of the year.
Awards founder Steve Crohill said the judging panel – drawn from professional finance associations – believed many entrants could have won outright in previous years.
He added: “We had a bigger entry than in previous years, and the the judges thought the standard was higher than ever. What’s really important though is that a successful Awards reflects on a successful economy.
“The Awards have attracted more entries and a better quality of entry in every year since 2010, and since we appeal to all business sectors I think that is proof that confidence continues to grow in the regional economy.”
