A HOTLY contested fixture awaits in the Evo-Stik First Division North as Trafford will be eager to carry on their unbeaten run as they meet rivals Mossley AFC at Shawe View on Saturday (KO 15:00 GMT).
Just two points and two positions separate the two sides in the top half of the table, so this is likely to be an exciting game between two high-scoring teams.
Both of these sides were in action in the first round of the Doodson League Cup during the week, with Trafford seeing off FA Cup heroes Salford City 2-1, while Mossley fell out of the competition, losing 3-2 at Ossett Albion.
Trafford have been on a good run of form recently, securing a commanding 3-1 win over Droylsden and a narrow 1-1 draw against fellow play-off outsiders Brighouse Town. They had won four of their previous six before sharing the points in West Yorkshire.
Mossley, on the other hand, have been inconsistent of late, racking up three wins and two defeats in their last five fixtures, however, their last league outing saw them beat Radcliffe Borough 4-1 in another derby encounter, so the Lilywhites are likely to be confident heading into the game.
This is a crucial game for both teams. A win for Mossley could potentially take them to within one point of the play-off places. Trafford, meanwhile, need to ensure they don’t get cut adrift of the teams above them, so they too will be going all out to get the three points.
Comparing the head to head record, this fixture has recently produced several tight encounters, with three draws in the last five meetings and both sides winning a game apiece. Therefore Saturday’s contest is again going to be very difficult to call.
