NON-LEAGUE club Salford City are on the brink of a place in the Emirates FA Cup Third Round should they win Friday’s home game against League Two side Hartlepool.

This would mark a huge moment in the club’s recent history. A place in the next round could set up the club with a daunting but highly exciting clash with a Premier League club, including the Class of 92’s own, Manchester United.

With the recent BBC documentary exposing the club to a wider audience and giving fan’s an insight to the lives of their favourite players, coupled with the rising attendance at Moor Lane makes it a great time to be a fan of the Ammies.

One of the players who is enjoying the recent limelight is prolific striker and former professional player, Gareth Seddon, who we recently had the opportunity to speak to ahead of the big game.

Another key figure of Salford City who has experienced the highs of lows of the team since the eighties is club president, Dave Russell.

Dave told Quays News just how far the club has come since joining back in 1988 when the ground was without floodlights or a bar and was in his own words ‘strictly amateur’.

He also recalled the initial meetings with ex Manchester United footballers Ryan Giggs and Gary Neville about potentially taking over the club, which Dave emphasised were top secret and had them both sworn to secrecy.

He continued to explain how the idea came to the lads when on the way to London for the Class of 92 film premier as they felt a sense of duty to give something back to local football.

A win on Friday could very give fans a potential glimpse into the future in the next round, with Salford’s aim of becoming a league club, the FA Cup will give the players the opportunity to see just how far away they are from competing with the bigger clubs in England.

But with visionaries like Dave and the Class of 92 working behind the scenes, if theirs one club that can defy the odds and can continue to succeed and climb the pyramid of English football, it’s Salford City FC.
