RONNIE O’Sullivan has announced he will make his return to snooker next week in Wigan in a bid to qualify for the German Masters.
The 39-year-old faces Hamza Akbar, ranked 123 in the snooker rankings, at Robin Park Sports Centre between December 17 and 19.
O’Sullivan will need to win two matches in order to qualify for next year’s finals, which will be held in Berlin in February.
The world number six has not played competitively since April, where he lost out to eventual champion Stuart Bingham in the quarter-finals of the World Snooker Championships.
O’Sullivan announced he will also be competing in the Masters next January, with a view to taking part in next year’s world finals.
Should the five-time world champion win the German Masters, it will be his third success, taking him ahead of John Higgins, with whom he shares two wins.
