ALTRINCHAM will face eighth tier Leamington FC in the First Round proper of the FA Trophy tomorrow (KO 15:00 GMT).

The Robins were knocked out of the FA Cup by League One side Colchester’s dramatic injury-time winner, having led twice in the match before losing 3-2.

They have had the whole week to prepare for the FA Trophy clash and manager Lee Sinnott will be hoping his side will channel their disappointment into the Trophy fixture against Leamington.

Altrincham currently sit 18th in the Vanarama National League while Leamington are in play-off contention three tiers further down the football pyramid.

The winners of the FA Trophy tie will receive a healthy cash injection, facing the prospect of £5,000 prize money.

Since the Leamington Spa outfit’s relaunch in 2000, they have progressed from the eleventh tier to the seventh.

After a spell in the National League North, they now ply their trade in the Evo-Stik League Southern following last season’s relegation.

Leamington FC have only twice made it to this stage of the FA Trophy and enjoyed their biggest success two seasons ago, reaching the second round.

They beat National League North Side Hednesford Town 4-2 to progress into the first round of the FA Trophy. Leamington’s biggest crowd this season saw them draw 623 fans, so they will be relishing the prospect of playing in front of over a thousand at Moss Lane.

Altrincham have won the FA Trophy twice already, once in 1978 and again in 1986. Last year, they made it to the third round of the competition, where they were knocked out by sixth tier Bath City FC.

Form favours the visitors who are unbeaten in two, while Alty have lost four of their last five games.

However, minnows Leamington will have to draw inspiration from Atlrincham’s own giant-killing feats in the FA Cup if they are to progress to the second round.

Provisional Squads:

Altrincham: Deasy, Sinnott, Leather, Heathcote, Griffin, Lawrie, Richman, Moult, Crowther, Rankine, Reeves, Clee, Bowerman, Swift, Cain, Williams, Davis, Stouppis.

Leamington FC: Breeden, Fry, Kelly, Magunda, Hood, Tank, Ogleby, Taundry, Mackey, Edwards, Moore , Halsall, Green, Oulton, George, Chilton, Mackay, Caviezel-Cox.
