NEW regional labour market figures have revealed that the North West is leading the “Northern Powerhouse initiative”.
The figures released by the Office of National Statistics show that the region has a greater employment rate than the North East and Yorkshire, and has shown the second-fastest growth in the UK behind the South East.
There is still a sizable gap between the North and South, with employment at 77.9 in the South, compared to 70 in the North.
The report comes weeks after the release of Manchester City Council’s annual “State of the City” report, which analysis the city’s performance over the previous 12 months.
