A 33-year-old woman was assaulted as she jogged through Woodbank Park, Offerton on Wednesday evening.

She heard footsteps behind her before she realised someone had grabbed her from behind, putting their hand over her mouth.

Both fell to the floor and there was a struggle before she managed to break free and run off.

Detective Sergeant Matt Berry said: “The victim is obviously upset by what happened but thankfully was not seriously injured.

“The man is described as being white, in his 20s, around 5ft 10in tall, wearing a dark grey hat, dark hooded top and jogging bottoms and I would ask anyone who may have seen this man to call us.

“I would also appeal to those who may have seen a man acting suspiciously in the area or anyone who feels they may have been approached by him to get in touch.”

Anyone with information should phone police on 0161 856 9973 or the independent charity Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
