MANCHESTER City have announced that season ticket prices will be froze for the 2016-17 Premier League season.

The club, who have 40,000 season ticket holders, has been criticised in recent weeks for charging some fans £60 for the upcoming Champions League Quarter-Final against PSG.

The pricing resulted in the 1894 group – a fan led organisation that works closely with the club – releasing an official statement criticising the club for not showing “any consistency on pricing” and “a lack of fan engagement and a lack of understanding of what our fan base wants”.

The popular fan led blog City Watch also penned an open letter strongly urging the club to reconsider their pricing structure. They also said the club “is now just another Premier League ‘corporation’ driven solely by its bottom line”.

Today’s announcement – sent via email to supporters – described the 2015-16 season as ‘eventful’ and made no mention of the freeze, instead providing a link to an online brochure showing the prices.

The cheapest adult seat remains priced at £299 which works out as £15.74 per Premier League game. The dearest adult seat, in a normal section, is priced at £900 which works out as £47.37 a game.

The dearest seat in the whole stadium – in the club’s 93:20 bar where the fans receive complimentary items each game – is priced at £1,300 which works out as £68.42 per game.

The announcement has caused mix reaction on social media. Here are some of the best reactions:
