MANCHESTER today (October 17) held the Olympic Heroes Parade – a celebration of Team GB making their triumphant return home and their biggest celebration yet was held in Manchester’s Albert Square.

Hosted by Mark Chapman, Helen Skelton and J.J. Chalmers, and featuring performances from The Brythoniaid Male Voice Choir along with the Kaiser Chiefs, who were a last minute replacement for Olly Murs, and Rebecca Ferguson, Manchester made sure the Olympians felt a warm welcome.

While the athletes made their route through Manchester, the hosts entertained the huge crowds gathered for an epic finale at Albert Square with their witty charm and a number of excellent acts.

The Choir performed first, covering ‘Blue Monday‘ by  New Order and ‘One Day Like This‘ by Elbow, both famous Manchester bands.

The crowd appreciated the unusual covers, belting along their best baritone impressions.

Next up were the Kaiser Chiefs, who unfortunately only had time to perform two songs  – the smash hit ‘Ruby‘ and their new single, ‘Hole In My Soul‘.

The band performed excellently, with Ricky Wilson – ever the showman – playing into the palms of the Manchester crowd.

The night concluded with the arrival of the Olympians.

Almost all of Team GB arrived on stage to rapturous applause from the gathered crowd.

They were welcomed on stage one by one by the hosts, with some including Paralympian Ellie Simmonds, rower Helen Glover and triathlete brothers Alistair and Johnny Brownlee being interviewed about their achievements over the summer.

Other highlights included taekwondo silver medallist Lutalo Muhammad hyping up the crowd and promised a wild night out in Manchester that evening.

Overall this has been an amazing celebration of some of Britain’s best talent. Here’s to 2020!
