IF YOU haven’t yet heard of Blossoms, you will be soon familiar with the name.
Blossoms had a very successful year in 2015, in October of that year they released their second EP ‘Charlemagne’ with the title track going straight to the top of the iTunes alternative chart, with it also being named as Radio X’s ‘Track of the Week’.
The band headlined Neighborhood festival in Manchester, and Village Underground in London on their most recent tour; earlier in the year they performed at SXSW for BBC Introducing, and appeared at festivals all over the country including Latitude and Reading & Leeds.
More significantly, Blossoms signed a record deal with Virgin EMI in 2015, which has led to 2016 being their biggest year yet, with eponymous debut album ‘Blossoms’ being released in August to critical acclaim and a number 1 spot on the UK album chart.

Tom Ogden, vocalist and guitarist for the band, spoke with me about the continued success of Blossoms, and the best possible end to the year, “We never seem to stop and dwell on things that are happening, we’re always six months ahead and looking to the next thing, these things are great accolades for bands, it’s really exciting, but we don’t sit and think about it too much, we just want to keep writing great songs, and this is great way for people to hear these songs, but we’re definitely honored to be a part of that list.”
Tom admits that it is quite to surreal to hear their single ‘Charlemagne’ played regularly on BBC Radio 1, but takes pride in the way in the which the band from Stockport have found their success.
“We’ve done it in the old fashioned way, from playing small venues and rehearsing every week, we’ve done it for two and a half years now, it’s been non-stop, it’s not like the X-Factor where it’s overnight, we’ve built towards it and we feel as though we deserve it.”
Thankful for their continued support, Tom notices that the band now have a somewhat devoted fan base from Stockport and Manchester, “When Manchester take to a band, they really do, they really get behind people with good tunes, I think people can see we’re real and we’ve done it, and I think that people contact with that.”

Blossoms identify having their own unique sound as something important to them as a band “It is definitely something which is important to us, the Arctic Monkeys sound like the Arctic Monkeys and no one else, and we want people to hear our music and recognise it as being Blossoms, for sure.”
It it safe to say that 2016 has been a massive year for Blossoms, with a show at Manchester Albert Hall already sold out for this month, the band will embark on another UK headline tour.
“We just keep going, and never want to stop, we have a tour early on in the new year, and we’re currently touring.” Make sure to catch Blossoms on their UK headline tour in March and May.
