MANCHESTER’S equivalent to Weezer and Sonic Youth. Bringing music back to the basics, Hot Shorts are launching their self-titled debut album this Friday at Manchester’s The Star and Garter.

Scratchy guitars and comical lyrics, Hot Shorts are a fun, feel good band that never disappoint live. Song topics ranging from ‘web design’, awkwardness, social media and the internet.

This album is an easy-going, yet addictive listen, especially for the younger audience. There’s nothing like being a student, avoiding work, listening to good music and relaxing… Hot Shorts help with that.

The new-wave grunge band also have their own signature move, too… During live gigs, it isn’t uncommon to see front-man Chris Killen do “the crab”, which involves him standing in front of the audience, grabbing his hands and moving side to side. Weird? Yes. Addictive and quirky? Hell yes.

If relatable grunge pop is your thing, you need this album in your life. Their new video for the song “My Phone is a F******* Piece of S***” sees the four-piece drinking milkshakes and pretending that their picture is being taken instead of a video… For the entire 2 and a half minutes. And to make it even weirder? They have the F.R.I.E.N.D.S.style font as their title.

Their SoundCloud also features their live songs, but as a mock of Nirvana’s Unplugged sessions for MTV. Quoting Kurt from the Unplugged videos, Hot Shorts show off their grunge-love and ability.

Get down to the Star and Garter this Friday for their album launch. Support a local band, get their album and give your ears some grunge love!
