Sergio Aguero has received a four match ban following a late challenge on David Luiz in Manchester City’s 3-1 loss to Chelsea.
The ban comes after the striker picked up his second red card of the season, his first coming in August against West Ham.
The Argentinian will now miss matches against Leicester, Watford and Hull, as well as a major game against Arsenal in the race for the Premier League title.
The tackle led to a scuffle, which resulted in fellow city player Fernandinho being sent off and receiving a three-match ban.
The Brazilian midfielder will be back available for the Hull game.
Players from both sides were involved in the scrap, with Chelsea’s Cesc Fabregas appearing to slap Fernandinho.
Pep Guardiola later apologised for his player’s behaviour, but stuck up for his striker saying he “didn’t think Aguero’s challenge was intentional.”
The loss leaves the Sky Blues sitting fourth in the league table, four points behind leaders Chelsea.
Nicolas Otamendi also topped off a poor individual performance this weekend, as he collected his fifth booking of the season.
This leaves Guardiola unable to select three first team players for the game against Leicester this weekend, however they could all feature in Tuesday’s Champions League tie at home to Celtic.
