MANCHESTER UNITED have marked the anniversary of the Munich Air Disaster in a memorial today at Old Trafford.
Fans gathered outside the Munich memorial at 2:45pm for a poem recital before the minute silence took place at 3:04pm – the time in which the fatal crash took place.

On February 6th 1958, twenty-three people were killed on the British European Airways flight 609 which crashed on its third attempt to take off from a dangerous wintry runway at Munich-Riem Airport.
Eight of these passengers were the talented Busby Babes who infamously started in the clubs’ youth team and worked their way up to the first team under the management of football legend Matt Busby.

Also killed in the accident were three of the club officials and eight journalists.
Today marks the 59th anniversary of the accident which is still heart-breaking for football fans across the world:

United have worked alongside fan groups on the commemorations which included readings from United’s club chaplain, The Pride of Football song and a traditional rendition of The Flowers of Manchester:

For people who couldn’t attend today’s memorial, the club will be having a ceremony from 1:45pm prior to the 3:00pm kick off on Saturday February 11 at Old Trafford before United play against Watford.
Fans can meet at the South East corner of the stadium for the tribute whilst the players will wear black armbands during the match in memory of the lives lost.
Families of those who died in the air disaster will be invited to the match.
