A woman has been violently attacked sexually assaulted in Trafford.

The attack happened at around 5.45pm yesterday, when the forty-year-old was walking down an alley next to Trafford General Hospital.
She was hit on the back of the head, and fell to the ground before the man pinned her down and held a knife to her throat and sexually assaulted her before being disturbed by something and fleeing the scene.

The attacker is described to be in his late 20’s, about 6ft 2ins with light ginger or blond eyebrows and had a Manchester accent.

He is thought to have worn a grey hooded top which was pulled tight around the face to his eyebrows and bottom lip. He is also believed to have been wearing grey jogging bottoms in a different shade to his top.

Greater Manchester Police are investigating the incident and Detective Inspector John Stainton from GMP Trafford Borough described it as: “a terrifying attack on an innocent woman who was going about her day as usual” before saying that “Everyone has the right to go about their daily lives without fear of being attacked or sexually assaulted”.

The force currently has specially trained police officers supporting the woman, who praise her courage for reporting the attack.

Stainton went on to say: “I understand this will cause concern in the community and we have increased patrols in the area. A team of officers have been working non-stop to find the man responsible and we will continue with our efforts”.

Police are urging the public to contact them if they saw a man acting suspiciously around the time of the offence, or if they recognise the description of him.

You can pass on information regarding the sexual offence by contacting police on 101 or call the independent charity Crimestoppers, anonymously on 0800 500 111.
