THE Manchester Film Festival will be hosted at the Odeon Printworks from Thursday.

Manchester’s annual film festival has expanded for 2017 and will be hosted at the Odeon Printworks from this Thursday until Sunday.

To go along with the twelve narrative features in the official selection are five documentaries and countless animations, short films and experimental films that promise to satisfy every type of film fan in the city.

It’s not just the films to get excited about though.

Every year since it began, MANIFF has promoted women in the industry and this year, it’s ‘Women in Film Live’ panel will feature actors Karen Allen (Raiders of the Lost Ark) and Stef Dawson (The Hunger Games) as well as select female filmmakers.

This panel will take place Saturday March 4 at 12:00pm at the Odeon.

Manchester Film Festival is also hosting a screenwriting talk headed by writer Elan Mastai, most notable for writing the award winning screenplay, What If? starring Daniel Radcliffe and Adam Driver as well as a panel on the final day where the festival’s jury will discuss what they thought were some of the highlights of the four day event.

Some of the films to look out for at MANIFF2017 are Creedmoria, a big hearted, vibrant American indie film starring Stef Dawson and directed by Alicia Simmer that has been likened to ‘Sixteen Candles’ and The Royal Tenenbaums and will have its UK Premiere at the festival.

There is also the UK Premiere of Joshua Locy’s Hunter Gatherer which has already made the rounds at North American festivals including SxSW and AFI Fest.

It is being billed under the festival’s ‘Rising Star’ strand and stars Andre Royo most notable as ‘Bubbles’ from The Wire.

Stanley: A Man of Variety looks to be a wonderfully weird film starring Timothy Spall, the character actor in all of your favourite British films and he, along with director Stephen Cookson will be hosting a Q&A following the screening.

We will also be treated to the world premiere of Warren Malone’s Across the River, said to be a heart-warming, funny and poignant journey across London being likened to Before Sunrise.

To cap off our films to look out for we have Bronwen Hughes’ The Journey is the Destination starring Ben Schnetzer, Ella Purnell and Kelly McDonald, another in the festival’s ‘Women in Film’ strand.

A true story of a photographer, a creative artist who risks his life to find the simple truths as he documents a war-torn Africa. A supposed uplifting and powerful film and one which we will also be treated to an after screening Q&A from Hughes herself.
