Greater Manchester mayoral candidate, Andy Burnham, will join a panel to discuss the affects triggering Article 50 will have on the city.

An event focusing on what Brexit means for Manchester will take place tonight at the University of Manchester.

Hosted by the Manchester ParliaMentors, the night promises to address the concerns of students and members of the local community.

Andy Burnham will speak at the event on a panel alongside Dimitris Papadimitriou, an EU Politics professor at the University of Manchester, and Dimitrios Doukas, professor of EU Law at the university.

The event page asks attendees: “Do you have questions about how multilingual, multicultural Manchester will look after Britain triggers Article 50?

“Do you want your opinions and concerns to be heard by the leading actors who have been shaping the Manchester- EU Debate?”

Organisers hope to help residents seek advice from experts on how leaving the EU single market will impact the northern powerhouse.

Organiser Carl Thomas said: “We want the event to be about what’s going on, not only with the EU or the UK being affected, but specifically to Manchester.

“Manchester is such an ethically diverse city and has a large student population and we don’t know how we’ll be affected by Brexit.”

The event is free and open to the general public.
