A life saving defibrillator has been installed outside The Blue Bell pub in Monton, Eccles.
The defibrillator is part of the British Heart Foundation’s (BHF) Nation of Lifesavers campaign, funded partly by a donation of over £600 from Monton Village Community Association (MVCA).
The defibrillator is available to be used by members of the public in emergency situations, and includes instructions in how to do CPR within 2 hours.
To complement the installation of this device, Community First Responder with NW Ambulance Service, Elizabeth Yeates will run free, fortnightly training sessions at St Andrews Medical Centre in Eccles.
Liz Harris, chairperson of MVCA said: “We are delighted to have raised enough money to help fund this lifesaving package. The defibrillator will be placed at The Blue Bell meaning that local people have the best chance of survival should they suffer a cardiac arrest. We’re keen to get as many people as possible trained in CPR too.”
Sara Askew, Head of Survival at the BHF, said: “In the UK more than 30,000 people suffer a cardiac arrest outside of hospital every year but less than one in ten survive. More lives could be saved if more defibrillators were available in public places and if more people felt confident using them and performing CPR.
“We are delighted that The Blue Bell pub in Monton have joined the BHF’s Nation of Lifesavers campaign – by making another defibrillator available and teaching CPR locally. It could really be the difference between life and death.”
A defibrillator is a device that gives an electric shock to the heart through the chest wall to someone who is experiencing a cardiac arrest. If someone nearby has had a cardiac arrest, it’s vital to call 999 and start CPR.
