Two major events planned to celebrate Transgender Day of Visibility in Manchester.

The LGBT Foundation in Manchester is supporting some exciting events happening across Greater Manchester that everyone can get involved in over TDOV 2017 including “TransMCR April: Our Visible Community” and “Gender is a Drag – Trans Day of Visibility at UOM”.

downloadUOM organises an event on March 31 for anyone who identifies as trans, their friends and family and will include a film screening, free food and will also commence their photo series on TDOV.

#TransMCR is organised by the LGBT Foundation on April 8 with many trans groups and volunteers across Manchester as a space for anyone that identifies as trans or non-binary and their close ones.

Every month sees loads of opportunities to explore workshops, listen and talk to other people, learn new skills as well as a range of advice drop-ins, holistic therapies and beauty treatments.

If you want to take part in this event visit the LGBT Foundation between 12:00 and 17:00

Transgender Day of Visibility in Manchester and across the world aims to bring attention to the accomplishments of trans communities around the world fighting transphobia by spreading knowledge of the trans community.

Unlike Transgender Day of Remembrance, this is not a day for mourning but of empowerment and getting the recognition this community deserves.

The head of Transgender Michigan, Rachel Crandall, created this event in 2010 to celebrate the trans community in a positive light and you can read more about it here.

This year’s theme is trans resistance in the increasingly transphobic global political climate, the community had to use their newfound visibility to mobilise trans people against oppression.

Speaking out and educating others is important to the community’s safety and wellbeing, recognising that while visibility is important, action should be taken against transphobia.
