HOLLYWOOD star Cillian Murphy was spotted filming in Manchester on Wednesday morning as filming for the latest series of BBC drama Peaky Blinders saw the Northern Quarter transformed into 1920’s Birmingham.
Crowds of people headed to the city’s Mangle Street throughout the day to catch a glimpse of Murphy, while there were also unconfirmed reports of co-star Tom Hardy being in the city alongside the Irishman.

One report even stated that Hardy had been seen in a Costa Coffee branch close to the filming, although there was no official sighting of the Mad Max star.

Murphy has starred in films such as The Dark Knight and 28 Days Later before taking on the role of lead character Tommy Shelby in Peaky Blinders back in 2013.
The transformation saw Mangle Street given a complete makeover as part of the filming for the hit period drama, with the sound of gunshots and the sight of smoke creating a very interesting picture for passers-by.

Features on show from the time period included an old-fashioned cart, which would be attached to the back of horses back in the 1920s, as well as a van that would be used to carry goods.
Marie Featherstone, 22, who was part of the crowd that gathered to get a glimpse of Murphy said: ”I’ve been here for a couple of hours now and have seen Cillian Murphy and heard gunshots.
”It’s really interesting to see how this sort of filming works, and it’s strange to hear of such big stars being on your doorstep.
Kevin Richardson, 34, came to get a glimpse of Tom Hardy but had been disappointed so far, saying: ”It’s cool to see it all but I’m still hoping to see Tom Hardy.
”I’ve heard gunshots and everything, which is interesting but I’m still hoping to see Tom as I’m a big fan of his.”
The show looks set to return to BBC screens for a fourth series before the end of the year.
