IT’S one of those quirks of fate that sport throws up on a very regular basis…And once again, Salford Devils are the lucky recipients.
In the 6th round of the Ladbrokes Challenge Cup, Salford Devils have been drawn against the very same team they relegated from Super League in golden point extra time at the end of last season.
Hull Kingston Rovers will visit the AJ Bell on Friday 12th of May live on Sky Sports, in what is an eagerly anticipated rerun of the 2016 “Million Pound” game.
The Robins, who reached the final in 2015, only to be beaten 50-0 by the Leeds Rhinos, will be hoping to put down a marker for a straight return to the top flight by knocking out a second Super League club in a row, having beaten Leigh Centurions in the last round.
Salford will be desperate to progress in a competition that has the man of the match trophy for the final named after one of its own, Lance Todd, and hopefully repay owner Marwan Koukash’s faith in the squad to finally bring some silverware to the banks of the ship canal.
Another intriguing battle takes place off the field, as former Director of rugby at Salford Tim Sheens is now the head coach of the East Hull outfit, having taken over after the club’s relegation. Salford head coach Ian Watson will want to put one over on his old mentor on possibly the biggest stage outside of Super League.
Salford have recently announced a raft of new contracts for players already in the squad, as they look to continue to challenge on all fronts for silverware, with Josh Wood, Jake Bibby and Lee Mossop the latest to pledge their future to the Devils.

Head coach Ian Watson was delighted that Mossop, who only joined the Devils at the start of the season, had committed to the club;
“The impact he’s had on the team environment is first class, he’s shown true leadership, with our group of young middles, and lead front the front in every game that he’s played for us.
The fact that he has decided to set his future here is a massive acquisition for the club. I’m delighted to have him on board.”
CEO and former Captain Ian Blease is also excited about the potential within the squad;
“Having top quality players like Lee commit to the club shows the direction we are going in; this team is really gelling together now and I’m looking forward to seeing what this group can achieve under Ian Watson.”
Students can also take advantage of a discount for home league games.
They are dropping the price of tickets in our Club 1873 Suite for the rest of the Betfred Super League home fixtures, meaning the VIP suite is only £25 per person. Club 1873 gives ticket holders access to an exclusive bar and function seat, as well as padded VIP seating level with the half way line.
It’s not known yet if these prices will be available for the Challenge Cup, as negotiations between the clubs on ticket prices are ongoing, and as soon as we can, Quays Sport will let you know, but with Hull KR likely to bring over a very large following, tickets are sure to be hard to come by.
