Two local barbers in Greater Manchester hosted a charity event following the opening of their new shop, Matu Barber Company.

The shop based in Stockport, opened its doors last Tuesday, where barbers and brothers, Josh and Jack Connolly raised money for a local charity, Reuben’s Retreat.

Josh Connolly, 27, Glossop, said: “We were so excited on doing the charity event today as it gives us a chance to show off our new shop to friends, family and customers but of course, helping to raise money for a fantastic charity in Reuben’s Retreat.”

Reuben’s Retreat is a local charity that was set up in the memory of Reuben Michael Graham who passed away at the age of 23 months. The aim of the charity is to provide a retreat in the North-West countryside that will help to relieve stress for families and friends who have suffered the bereavement of a child or have a child suffering from a life limiting or life threating illness.

So far, they have raised over £300 for the charity by customers donating any price for a haircut on the day. Hot and cold beverages were being served around the shop, there was a raffle and a gaming station to keep customers entertained as they waited for a cut from the barbers.

Josh said: “It is such a good feeling that the shop is finally open now. We are the only male barbers in the village so we are able to branch ourselves out more to extra custom.”

Josh and Jack, who have been training barbers now for two years have worked at many different barber shops around the city of Manchester learning and practicing the trade.

They have also worked as mobile barbers to help raise their own funds to chase the barber dream.

Jack Connolly, aged 25, Glossop, said: “We are so pleased with how everything has turned out and today’s charity event has been great. It all goes to a great cause.”
