BOLTON Wanderers have won their first league game of the season beating Sheffield Wednesday 2-1.

Wanderers got off to a good start as Sammy Ameobi scored Bolton’s first goal in the 10th minute of the game; it was his first goal since being back from injury. This was followed by a helping hand from the opposition as Sam Hutchinson scored an own goal, deflecting Felipe Morais’ corner into his own net in the second half.

Despite several opportunities on goal, Sheffield Wednesday were only able to bring the score to 2-1 when centre back, Tom Lees, scored a close-range goal following a Bolton handball on the goal line.

Until this weekend’s game Bolton hadn’t scored in seven league games with their last league goal being against Derby on 19 August.

The Trotters have had a bad start to the season and have conceded 23 goals in just 12 games, leaving them at the bottom of the league and six points from safety in the Championship.

Bolton were promoted from league one last season after previously being relegated from the championship in 2016.

The stats for Wanderers’ poor start speak for themselves:

Fans have been left disappointed following their successful campaign in League 1, which saw them return to the Championship after just one season.

The poor run of results has coincided with severe financial difficulties facing the club. Last week the North West club had to deny rumors that the club was up for sale for just £25 million.

After speaking to several fans after the weekends game, the general consensus seemed to be that Bolton’s failings have come following a lack of funding for the club; their struggles with a transfer embargo as well as injuries.

Here’s what the fans had to say about Bolton’s season so far.
