A fire at Wing Fat cash and carry supermarket produced smoke which spread across Greater Manchester and could be spotted in the city centre.

Manchester Fire and Rescue service have reported that the blaze is dying down on their social media.

It was reported that the eight fire engines were called to the business on Ashton Old Road at around 11:20am on Tuesday morning.
A local business owner said: “We’ve had the power shut down so nothing goes through, everything is online so we can’t do anything right now so it’s affecting business as well.
“They’re not letting anyone near there and are asking us to keep far away.”
Another nearby business said: “They were trying to evacuate us from the building, but obviously we’ve got bills to pay.
“It’s not affected us as of yet, but if it had carried on it probably would have.”
The fire was in between Pottery Lane and Chancellor Lane, which resulted in the closure of Ashton Old Road in both directions.
Wing Fat is a leading supplier of far eastern goods from Faulkner Street in Manchester’s Chinatown.

A police report stated: “No-one is believed to be inside the building and residents in the surrounding area are being evacuated as precaution.”
“Anyone attending the Mav City VS Wolves fixture at the Etihad stadium tonight is advised to use public transport where possible and allow extra time whilst travelling.”

Nearby residents were evacuated as GM fire department voiced concerns about anyone with respiratory conditions, telling them to make sure to use medication.
It is still not known what caused the fire.
