SCOTLAND have selected Sale Sharks winger Byron McGuigan in their squad for the upcoming Autumn internationals.

This is McGuigan’s first call up in for Scotland, although he has previously represented them in the 2011-12 Sevens World Series.

McGuigan said: “I’m absolutely buzzing. Very happy about it. My family all know now and they’re ecstatic, so yeah, a very proud moment”

The Winger was born in Namibia and started his rugby union career in South Africa, but has strong Scottish heritage and has played for Pro 14 side Glasgow Warriors.

Byron McGuigan said: “My mother and that whole side of the family’s Scottish, so growing up it’s always been a big thing, Scotland, and growing up it was actually a dream I had to play for Scotland, so to have this opportunity’s huge.”

Scotland will face Southern Hemisphere nations Samoa, Australia and New Zealand in the Autumn internationals. When asked who he would be most thankful for the opportunity to face, McGuigan said: “They’re all three quality teams, so I mean, I have to go for New Zealand. They’re number one in the world, so that would be great.”

The Scots host Samoa at BT Murrayfield stadium in their first Autumn international on Saturday, November 11, 2:30pm kick-off.
