TWO leading fashion publishers have expressed that they believe the world of fashion will be moving into a more digital era at a BBC’s ‘Digital Cities’ event.

The events are ongoing from the 12th to the 18th of November and they offer an insight into the evolving advancements of technology and the impact the digital age has on aspects of industry.

The ‘Digital Cities’ events provide workshops for people to develop their digital skills as well as learn about how digital media can affect businesses and companies.

Wednesday’s event ‘Digital Fashion Futures’ discussed how digital and online markets can benefit the fashion industry. The event welcomed guests to Harvey Nichols in Manchester City Centre.

Local students from Manchester School of Art and the University of Salford previewed their unique fashion designs.

The main event of the evening was a panel hosted by BBC North West’s Eno Eruotor. The panel discussed fashion and its future in the digital sphere.

Mark Leech, Head of e-commerce at Missguided, said the aim of the company was to provide “fast, affordable fashion” to customers and this was helped by the impact of digital marketing and advertising.

Leanne Bayley, who previously worked with the ‘Daily Mail’, admitted that Glamour will be going in a digital direction for the future, focusing on beauty and working with a diverse range of girls in collaboration articles.

Today, the ‘Digital Cities’ event put on a panel at Media City UK which saw four industry professionals discuss the benefits of exploring and experimenting with different platforms of digital media. Experts answered questions from a live audience.

Rick Murray, the creative director of Endemol Shine North, talked about the office dynamics of their base in Media City. He mentioned how within their workspace, it was important to have that physical collaboration in order to create quality work however the digital world has allowed the expansion of Endemol Shine to function smoothly and successfully.

Through its panels, workshops and events, Digital Cities has opened Manchester’s eyes to the opportunities and advantages of the digital world.
