THE Brown Cow pub in Salford caught on fire on the 22nd of November and it took 40 firefighters to take out the blaze.

The fire spread over two storeys of the pub as well as the pub’s basement.

40 firefighters arrived on the scene at the Brown Cow Pub, Salford around 4:00 pm after receiving 23 calls to the 999 service, including one from a seven year old boy.

Four fire engines and an aerial appliance helped extinguish the fire.

Ben Levy, Borough manager for Salford and Trafford said: “The fire was probably quite under control within the first hour or so but we remained in attendance throughout the evening and into the next morning after waiting for the boarding up company and our fire investigation team to carry out their work.”

You can listen to the full interview with Ben Levy below, where he also touches on firefighters facing attacks on a daily basis.

The cause of the fire is unknown at this time but there was evidence of a forced entry.

The Brown Cow pub is located on Worsley Road which was closed due to the fire.

Mr Levy also stated that: “There was a lot of smoke being put out by this fire which also affected the M60 motorway and that caused some traffic obstruction on the nearby motorway at the same time.”

24 hours before the fire, local firefighters were at the pub for a training exercise. Once they had completed their training exercise the pub was re-secured by a security company.

The pub closed on the 18th of January in 2015. However electricity was still running within the pub.

Just last month Caspia Management Ltd and Robinsons Brewery were appealing to Salford City Council for permission to demolish the Brown Cow and build 21 flats and 28 houses in it’s place.
