More details have been announced about the bi-annual Sport Relief fundraising night that will be broadcast from Salford for the first time later this month.

The BBC has revealed the presenting line-up for the long-running charity telethon on March 23, headed by Gary Lineker, Davina McCall and Ore Oduba.

Local guys Paddy McGuiness and Freddie Flintoff will take over the reigns later on the final night alongside Strictly Come Dancing host Claudia Winkleman.

Lineker spoke of his happiness that Salford was the location of choice at the initial announcement last November, saying:

“Being familiar with Salford already thanks to Match of the Day I just know the programme will be given the warm welcome it deserves in the North.”

On the night

Events on the night will include Celebrity Boxing, with Wayne Bridge versus Spencer Matthews the pick of the bouts, and a footballer’s special of Strictly featuring David Ginola.

As well as this, Sue Barker hosts a special edition of A Question of Sport, also filmed at Media City.

And comedian John Bishop will set out on a mission to help England win this summer’s World Cup.

Will Bishop’s efforts live up to this legendary sketch by James Corden as Smithy with the England squad in 2009?

On the same day as the Sport Relief TV show, and also in Media City, Robbie Savage will be limbering up once more as he takes on 12 non-stop hours of five-a-side football from 11am-11pm.

It is set to be an action-packed day, with the eyes of Britain turned towards Salford for a worthy cause.
