The name Club 13 makes reference to the amount of players in a typical rugby league team and the networking event will be held on the 13th of every month.

The club aims to promote rugby league in the Salford and Manchester area to business owners and professionals that don’t necessarily associate themselves with rugby league

It also gives business people who take a particular interest in the sport the opportunity to discuss rugby with people who share a similar interest away from the office.

Salford Red Devils director Andrew Rosler said:

“Most people want to join a networking club to help with business development and we want to make sure we encourage business to trade with each other within the group.”

“There will be a wide spectrum of businesses will be getting involved in the club and will really be merging sports, professional and commercial worlds together.”

He went on to explain that the club also wants to provide a network where the businesses could potentially offer opportunities such as apprenticeships, internships and mentoring schemes to players.

“Whether they are just starting out in the game aged 16 or coming to the end of their careers, we want to offer new opportunities to players of all ages” explained Mr Rosler.

The first event, which is being held next Tuesday will feature four ex-Salford Players. Robbie Paul will be interviewing Paul Huyton, who is Salford’s current welfare officer, Nathan McAvoy and Adrian Morley.

The players will be talking about their career at Salford and how they transitioned from the field into business.

They hope through having these speakers they will have a better understanding to how the
club and sport as a whole could provide better opportunities to players who are coming to the end of their careers.

Club 13 anticipates that if the club goes well that they can encourage boroughs from across Greater Manchester will be bidding to staging the Rugby League World Cup games in 2021.

“We’re hopeful that a number of the businesses that join Club 13 will be able to support and engage with the various elements that are involved in the bidding process and it is something exciting and new for a lot of the members that haven’t been involved in something like that before”.
