A HYPNOTHERAPIST from Salford has expressed how she believes people underestimate the power of hypnosis.

Rena Gough, a mother of three from Walkden, said: “People can fulfill their potential and become the person they want to be after just three sessions”.

Hypnotherapy uses hypnosis to try to treat conditions or change habits that can be done holistically or clinically.

Holistic therapy works with the root causes of an issue, it focuses on the emotional attachment a person feels towards an event that has happened in their lives, this includes: pass life therapy, confidence and self healing.

Clinical therapy deals with the symptoms, an example of this is an addiction to smoking, so once an individual has undergone therapy, they are able to leave the addition behind.

The 38 year-old started her hypnosis career four years ago with hypnobirthing. This is where women who are going into labour fall into hypnosis and prepare themselves to give birth.

She said: “I went from teaching to hypnobirthing and I saw the changes in people, I saw how women who were terrified to give birth to begin with actually become excited because of the effects of it.

“I then trained in hypnotherapy because I saw how much more I could do with it and I was able to write my own scripts for both forms” she added.

The former teacher started looking into hypnotherapy after her first and only session ended her frequent panic attacks.

The therapist explained: “Hypnotising someone is a massive misconception, I am not in control of anyone, you hypnotise yourself.

“Anytime your mind is not in this moment, you are in a state of hypnosis, when you’re in that state of hypnosis, your subconscious mind is active and it’s looking for danger”.

She continued: “Hypnotherapy has helped me help other people and when my clients achieve great things, it gives me a confidence boost.”

When clients enter the room, the issue is discussed with the therapist who then writes a personalised script for them.

“Getting into the hypnosis is usually the same, it’s just about relaxing the mind and getting it to wonder off somewhere else and ensuring the subconscious is awake” she explained.

Therapists then usually say specific sentences and suggestions which convinces the subconscious mind whatever it believes to be true, to change its perspective and view of it.

Clients normally take up three sessions which last 20 minutes long and if it works positively, the issue will be resolved.

It is unusual for anyone under the age of 30 to take part in these sessions.

Ms Gough said: “During your twenties, you tend to be caught up in your degree and career, you don’t focus on your health as much as you should.

“I’ve had clients who have come to me for sessions at the age of 70 because they want to learn how to live the rest of their lives happily”.
