Eoin Morgan and his England side will be looking to make it a 5-0 whitewash over rivals Australia when they play at Emirates Old Trafford tomorrow.
His side made it 4-0 on Thursday after a resounding six wicket victory at Emirates Riverside in Chester-le-Street.
The opening combination of Jonny Bairstow and Jason Roy have proven too much for the Australian bowlers in this series. The pair have amassed 591 runs between them in four matches with Roy averaging 75.75 and Bairstow averaging 72.
Surrey batsman Roy has notched two centuries and a half centuries in the series with a top score of 120.
Many England fans will still be in awe of their team setting the world record for the highest team total in ODI history. The team managed to score 481-6 in the first innings at Trent Bridge on Tuesday.
Yorkshire leg-spinner Adil Rashid will be looking forward to playing tomorrow as England’s highest wicket taking spinner in one-day internationals. He overtook retired off-spinner Graeme Swann in Durham. The 30-year-old has taken 106 wickets in 69 matches.
He spoke about his achievement at a press conference today: “I’m proud of that achievement.
“Swanny [Graeme Swann] was a great bowler for England across all formats, so to pass him means a lot. Hopefully it’s just the beginning and I can keep going for the team and individually as well.”.
As for Australia – their woes have continued over the past two weeks. This comes following the ‘Sandpaper Gate’ scandal and the fact that they have lost key senior players.
The tourists have only won two of their last 16 ODIs which puts them on the backfoot given that there is an ICC Cricket World Cup just under a year away.
To rub salt in the Australian wound, this series win has meant that England have won consecutive series’ against their enemy for the first time since 1986-87
England are currently ranked number one in the ICC ODI Rankings table after a series of impressive performances since the 2015 ICC Cricket World Cup.
