In celebration of World Post Day, a Salford Post Office manager sent praise to Royal Mail

Liaqat Ali, senior branch manager at Eccles New Road Post Office has been working as post master for 21 years.

“I’ve lost count now (of the number of letters sent through his post office), probably millions!”

“My favorite bit of post I’ve received was actually from the post office themselves! It was a certificate for 10 years of service, I’m still waiting for my second one!”

Mr Ali goes on to talk about how overwhelmed he would be by the number of letters sent through his Eccles New Road branch, but in recent years there has been a decrease in letters due to the rise of email and Whatsapp.

“I get a lot of online shopping returns, ASOS, Pretty Little Thing, In The Style that kind of thing but not as many letters as before. I prefer a handwritten letter but Whatsapp is much easier these days.”

Royal Mail is one of the oldest organisations in the world with its origins dating back 500 years.

Each year, they deliver 1.8 billion parcels and 14 billion letters.

Nowadays, the use of mobile phones to make contact is much more popular than a traditional letter. But which do you prefer?
