Ordsall and Langworthy’s Neighbourhood Team have been awarded a Greater Manchester Police STARS award for their work in tackling anti-social behavior.

The award was presented to the Neighbourhood Team for working proactively with partner agencies, local residents and businesses to tackle anti-social behaviour.

The Ordsall and Langworthy team this year secured over £15k of funding to help tackle the anti-social behaviour that has taken over the area in recent years. With this funding, close relationships with partner agencies and exceptional levels of commitment, the team has taken real strides to tackling what is seen as a huge problem.

In August alone, 574 crimes were reported in the Langworthy and Ordsall areas, ranging from possession of weapons, to violent and sexual assaults. This highlights the true scale of the problem that the Neighbourhood team have to deal with.

Awards were presented to a mixture of Police Officers, Community Support Officers and volunteers at a presentation held at Gorton Monastery last week.

The event was opened by Chief Constable Ian Hopkins. He used the awards evening to pay tribute to the staff of Greater Manchester Police, who he feels have “excelled” over the past 12 months with their “wonderful work”. he said:

“The STARS awards are a fantastic celebration of achievement and a way of showing appreciation for the amazing work that they do.

“The public motivation score was extremely high in our recent staff survey, which shows how highly motivated GMP colleagues are to deliver public service, and the award nominations we received from across the force reflect that.”

The Chief Constable went on to praise the professionalism of all his staff, sating how proud he is of the team.

“Congratulations to all the officers, staff and volunteers that were nominated for awards and the standard was higher than ever this year.

“All of our winners have shown a huge amount of professionalism and a dedication to the people of Greater Manchester and have done the force proud.”
