Salford University’s American Football team have proposed to compete in the British Universities and College Sports (BUCS) league in 2019.
In order to be accepted, the Salford Saints must play at least 2 home games and two away games under the watch of representatives from BUCS.
The team who were formed in 2016, will then be evaluated if they are competent enough to compete in the league. The hope is that they will compete at the beginning of the 2019 academic year.
Elliott Dennett, Chairman of the team is looking forward to getting going and thinks the team will be ready to compete next year.
“We are looking at hoping of getting a lot more interest and more people wanting to come and take part.”
He said: “our short term aim is to play scrimmage games this year to ensure we are a team that is capable of playing against other clubs.
“The following year, we are hoping to be in the BUCS league. Once we’ve got the kit and funding, we should be ready as we have been training since last year and have got players who have played for amateur teams before.”
The team is unisex which means anyone from a first year to a mature student with an interest in American Football can join.
With popularity in the sport increasing vastly in the UK since the NFL was brought to Wembley in 2007, the Salford Saints are hoping to capitalize on it and see an increase in members.

Mr. Dennett continued to say, “We are looking at hoping of getting a lot more interest and more people wanting to come and take part.
“The more members we have, the more funding we can get.”
