Salford City Lionesses yesterday booked their place in the Quarter Final’s of the Manchester FA Women’s Challenge Cup, after thrashing Manchester Rovers 15-0 at Partington Sports village.

Hat-trick’s from Chelsea Wharton and Laura Tobin, alongside goals from Felicity Winters (2), Mia Pemberton (2), Abby Bennett, Becky Topping, Feiruz Abdullahi and Ella Thornton saw the Lionesses comfortably into the next round.

The Lionesses will find out their opponents for the Quarter-Finals in the coming weeks.

First half

Wharton scored twice in the first ten minutes with both goals coming from the edge of the area, making proceedings comfortable for the Ammies early on.

The Lionesses third goal came courtesy of Abby Bennett in the 13th minute. The full-back ventured forward, taking the ball past four players before seeing her shot end up in the back of the net.

Two minutes later Tobin added Salford’s fourth with a move down the right-hand side that saw her lift a shot over the Rovers keeper.

The Lionesesses carried on dominating Manchester Rovers throughout the first-half with goals from Bennett, Topping, Abdullahi, Tobin and Pemberton to give Salford a 9-0 lead at half time.

Second half

Two minutes into the second-half, Winters put Salford 10-0 up with a shot low into the far post.

On the stroke of the hour, Ainscough made it 11 for the Lionesses with a clever move down the right-hand side from Winters. Winters then played a pass across to Tobin on the edge of the area who nudged it onto Ainscough in space who could comfortably finish past the keeper.

In the 70th minute Pemberton scored a header from just inside the box making it two goals in two games for her.

In the last 10 minutes Tobin and Wharton both sealed their hat-ricks with Wharton smashing a volley into the top corner. Before Pemberton and Bennett finishing off proceedings in the 84th and 90th minute.
