A Media City hairdresser  is collecting winter clothing for Salford Loaves and Fishes, which supports vulnerable members of society.

The charity specialises in providing shelter, food and emotional support for those struggling in the Salford area, not just the homeless community.

Fibre Hairdressing is appealing for winter clothing donations at its Media City branch, including plain coloured coats, jumpers and school uniforms. These are to be shared between Salford Loaves & Fishes and foodbanks located in the Salford area.

Ian Graham, owner of Fibre, has lived in Salford his entire life and is keen to keep up the yearly donations to give back to his community.

He said: “If you can afford to live, you can afford to give. We can all help out by donating, every little helps those in need especially at Christmas time.”

Mr Graham is hoping to beat his yearly record of 190 coat donations from clients and members of the public by using social media to promote the work of his store.

He has been using Facebook to live stream the campaign, appealing for donations before the end of the week.

Mr Graham has also given a full day of haircuts at the Loaves and Fishes community centre for the homeless in previous years, estimating he gave more than 30 to those in need. He hopes to continue giving his time to help through further haircuts and food donation.

After moving locations earlier in the year, Salford Loaves and Fishes is in constant need of donations and volunteers to help the charity to thrive. A spokesperson said: “In winter time we desperately need warm clothing and toiletries These donations will see us through for the year.”

The charity is also in desperate need of sleeping bags, non-perishable food, tea, coffee and sanitary products. These items are in high demand for all those who visit the centre

A volunteer from Loaves and Fishes said the charity is always humbled by donations. She said: “When times are so difficult its good to see that people still give to charity.”
