A Christmas charity concert is being held at Manchester Cathedral in aid of the Salford based research group Kidscan, who actively work to seek out treatments for children suffering with cancer.

Four Salford primary school choirs are taking part, as well as the all-female Gloucestershire based group ‘The Springfield Singers’ to provide the vocal entertainment of the night. All carols will be backed by the Sale Brass Band, who are from South West Manchester.

The primary schools taking part in the concert are; Willow Tree, St. Luke’s C of E, Springfield and St Joseph’s RC.

Emma Barker, the fundraiser manager for Kidscan, says the event is their ‘biggest yet’ and have been supported in the past for smaller Christmas events with businesses such as The Alchemist and The Wharf in Castlefield, as well as numerous other smaller organisations.

Kidscan has successfully funded over 35 projects since 2002, such as targeting acute Leukemia cells and effects on amino acids in response to drugs- with even more treatment developments being currently evaluated.

There are currently tickets still available for the public, with all profit made funding the charities research. The details of their projects can be found on their official site here. She encourages all members of the public to attend the event, which costs a mere £8 for an adult or just £6 for a child/concession ticket.

Barker says; “One in 500 children will be diagnosed with cancer before they turn fourteen and by buying a ticket to this event, you are actively contributing to vital life-saving research.”

The entry fee will not only provide a much appreciated donation for the cause, but will also include what has been described as ‘a suitably Christmas themed refreshment’ to enjoy whilst the concert goes on. Sing a long tracks will also be played to allow the audience to interact as well as visual effects such as glow in the dark features.

The event is taking place on the 28th November at 7.30pm and will last until 9pm. Tickets for the event are available here.

Barker has additionally stated that the event is still searching for corporate sponsorship, so if you or any business you are aware of wish to get involved please contact Kidscan with this link.
