Ballet Black, an organisation celebrating dancers of black and Asian descent, bring a pioneering double bill to The Lowry tonight.
Artistic director Cassa Pancho MBE founded Ballet Black in 2001 to provide role models to young, aspiring black and Asian dancers and to bring the traditionally white, upper class dance to a more culturally diverse audience.
Ballet Black is at The Lowry tonight, Monday November 19.
The performance at The Lowry is a double bill from choreographer Cathy Marston including a new work based on Can Themba’s moving fable The Suit.
Closing the evening is Arthur Pita’s Olivier-nominated A Dream Within a Midsummer Night’s Dream – a beautiful Shakespeare-inspired piece.

Ballet Black also run a Ballet Black Junior School with subsided classes and an Associate Programme created for those who wish to continue their ballet to a professional level.
The company is supported by the Andrew Lloyd Webber Foundation, donations from friends, independent donors and small charitable donations.
Ballet Black have also teamed up with Freed of London to be the first UK company to create pointe shoes for black, Asian and mixed race dancers.
