Manchester United Women’s team, who train at The Cliff ground in Broughton, have continued their winning success after they came away from their latest match with a win after beating Millwall Lionesses 8-0 on Sunday.

A hat-trick from Mollie Green, goals from Lauren James, Ella Toone, Katie Zelem and Jess Sigsworth and a penalty from Alex Greenwood secured their win against the Lionesses, who are currently at the bottom of the FA Women’s Championship table in 11th place.

The Reds are now top of the table, overtaking Tottenham Ladies who they beat 4-1 earlier this month. After winning seven of their eight games this season, with one draw and only two losses. They are 39 goals up after only conceding three goals since the season began in August. Less than any other team in the Championship and have an average of five goals per game.

Captain Alex Greenwood, who scored a penalty for her team in their clash with Millwall said on Twitter: “It was a “brilliant performance from the team. Hat trick for Mollie Green. Debut for Fran Bentley and our fans were brilliant as always.”

The team were founded just five months ago, after United’s previous female team broke up thirteen years ago. So far this season they have been contenders for winning the championship. Yet to lose a match this season, the reds are expected to have a successful first season.

If they continue to play with such success and finish at the top of the table, Manchester United’s Women’s team will move up to play in the FA Women’s Super League and face teams such as Arsenal, Manchester city and Chelsea.

When appointed in the summer, Casey Stoney MBE said: “an absolute privilege to be the head coach on this exciting journey with the biggest club in the world.”

The next match the women will play is on Sunday 2nd December. Where they will face Lewes Women, at The Dripping Pan, who are currently 8th in the league.
