130 year old Salford pub, The Black Lion, is pushing their new food menu coming into the Winter season.

As Salford becomes a hub for an increasing number of businesses, residences and nightlife the local area has buzzed with life over the past few years. The Black Lion pub has expanded their business to wider audiences.

The new menu brings more Pieminister dishes than ever as well as a few specials perfected by a new team of chefs.

A new team of kitchen staff have re-vamped the menu bringing traditional British favourites and new high demand appetisers to the table.

The menu includes small dishes such as nachos, sweet potato fries and lamb kebabs and larger main dishes like jacket potatoes, burgers and salads. The menu aims to help to bring together the community no matter what your food preferences are.

Bar manager David Mewett spoke about the new menu and what the traditional pub is hoping the food will bring to the community.

With the help of their Facebook page, the bar hosts weekly events. The open mic night which runs on Tuesdays brings in singers and artists from all over town wanting to showcase their work and provide top quality entertainment for the bars patrons and visitors of the hotel.

As well as the open mic, every Friday a DJ plays across the pool room bringing in crowds from Salford and Manchester who want a night of dancing and cheap drinks without the hustle and bustle of mainstream city centre bars.

The New Black Lion

The pub underwent a renovation a few years ago and has since impressed locals by the community feel and the safe, enjoyable atmosphere. The age range goes from 18 to 60 as an average and the pub gets quite busy surrounding sports events as the bars seven plasma screen TV’s provide a top quality viewing experience.

A series of polls on Twitter showed what people really look for on a night out and how certain things that bars, pubs and clubs offer help dictate what they do.

The Black Lion offers free pool on Mondays (otherwise £1 on other days) and also boasts happy hour Monday – Thursday from 5-7 every week. This includes:

2 Budweiser’s or Corona for £5.50
3 shots for £5, including sambuca
Double up on all spirits for only £1 more
A bottle of wine for only £10 (Usually £13.95)

The prices are competitive compared to other bars in the local area and the eight staff members that make up the team at the Salford J.W. Lees pub are eager to advertise the new menu.

The refresh means The Black Lion now offers more vegetarian and vegan options that are in high demand right now.

There are now over 10 vegetarian friendly options, fantastic news for all the veggies out there.

The pub also accepts TasteCard, an app that gives people money off 1,000’s of bars, restaurants and entertainment venues across the UK and beyond.
