Porta

A new Porta tapas bar in Salford was broken into on Chapel Street, after being open for just five days.

The tapas bar, Porta, was broken into on Sunday night after opening to the public, on Wednesday. The bar is owned by brothers, Ben and Joe Wright, who took to social media to share the news on Monday.

Taking to Twitter, the brothers said: “After an exhausting couple of months of refurb and a stressful week opening the restaurant, we had a break-in last night. It’s been a really horrible day.

“The scumbags smashed the place up, broke every locked door and stole stock and cash. Seemingly a pretty serious job, and not ‘kids’ or opportunists but thieves with cutting gear. We’ve spent the day securing the place and increasing security.

“We’re determined not to let this get us (too far!) down as our first week has been really positive and the feedback from our first customers has been great.

“Thanks to our brilliant staff and all of you who have visited us so far; your kind comments and support means a huge amount. We’re looking forward to opening again tomorrow. Much love, Ben, Joe, Vicki, Marta and the team.”

After gaining huge success with their bars in Altrincham and Chester, the brothers decided to open their third Porta on Chapel Street in Salford. The tapas and wine bar follows a spanish-style theme focusing on simple but high-quality dishes.

Despite the terrible news, Ben and Joe have been overwhelmed by the support they have received across social media and are now back open for business.

Porta isn’t the first place in the area to be broken into in the past few months despite Salford Council’s aim to regenerate the area. Both co-op and Vero Moderno, both located on Chapel Street, have also been targeted in the past 18 months.

Salford Now covered the opening of Porta which you can read here.
