The Sale Sharks Director of Rugby, Steve Diamond praised his side after their defeat to league leaders Exeter Chiefs yesterday.

Exeter ran out 20-14 winners at the AJ Bell Stadium in the Gallagher Premiership as they remain four points clear of Saracens.

At the post-match press conference, Diamond said: “[It was a] hard game. A lot of blood. But the side that made the least mistakes got it in the end.

“We line broke quite well in the first half but we couldn’t finish it off.

“[I’m] not that disappointed if I’m honest. I’ll have a pint tonight over the bonus point.”

During the game, Exeter showed why they are top of the league and Diamond and complimented their performance.

“They are a good side. Anyone who doubt’s them does so at their own peril. They know how to grind a game out.” Diamond said.

After a dominant display from the visitors in the first half, the hosts picked up their game which pleased Diamond.

“I thought we had some real enthusiasm in the second half when the bench came on and we got within striking distance.

“There’s no b********g in the dressing room. They gave it their all.

“We’re on the march. We’ve got a committed set of lads and we’ll dust ourselves down for Leicester next Friday night.” he said.
