Margaret Atwood, author of dystopian novel The Handmaid’s Tale, will be coming to the Lowry Theatre in October of this year.
The Handmaid’s Tale was later turned into an award winning TV series and remains a seminal work in the feminist movement.
At the event she will be discussing her career and new novel, The Testament, a sequel to The Handmaid’s Tale.
The Testament is set to be released in September this year, over thirty years after her original work.
The book is set in the fictitious republic of Gilead and follows “handmaids” who are assigned to elite couples to carry their children.

Atwood will be interviewed on Salford’s Lyric stage about her work and will be answering questions from the audience and discussing her work.
Atwood has said: “Dear Readers: Everything you’ve ever asked me about Gilead and its inner workings is the inspiration for this book. Well, almost everything! The other inspiration is the world we’ve been living in.”
Yasmeen Hassan of Equality Now has said: “The Testaments could not be more timely for us working on gender equality – we need to remain vigilant, persistent and make ourselves heard.”
She added: “Margaret Atwood’s work has had a huge impact on bringing attention to our cause and we are delighted and privileged to be partnering with her on these events.”
