Salford City Council is encouraging ‘little heroes’ to get involved in a nationwide initiative to clean up the streets and parks.

The Great British Spring Clean, which will run from Friday, 22 March – Tuesday, 23 April, will inspire people to start protecting the environment.

Last year, hundreds of Salford residents got involved in collecting tonnes of rubbish – including schools, community groups and local companies.

The council are providing litter-picking essentials and collecting the rubbish for any groups that register with the Great British Spring Clean in Salford.

Keep Britain Tidy Chief Executive Allison Ogden-Newton said: “Without councils across the country giving the campaign their backing, our volunteers would not be able to do the incredible job they do.”

Allison added: “The Great British Spring Clean is an opportunity for the millions of people who care about the environment on their doorstep to do something positive that will make a visible difference.”

Last year, the event saw 370,000 volunteers collecting 630,000 bags of rubbish across Britain.

This year, the organisation hopes to have even more of an impact by imposing the “three bag full” approach.

This encourages their volunteers to recycle by filling each individual bag with: aluminium cans, plastic or general rubbish.

Litter picking events will be taking place across Salford this month and you can also create your own event in the community.
