Sale Sharks have announced the signing of South African International Lood de Jager.

The second-row will join the club on a three-year deal after the World Cup and adds to the recruits already made by Steve Diamond, with fellow South African’s Rob du Preez and Akker van der Merwe having also signed ahead of next season.

“I am extremely pleased to secure the services of Lood ahead of the 2019/20 season,” said the Sharks’ director of rugby.

“He is a world class line-out operator with lots of experience at the highest level and offers a huge physical presence around the pitch.

“The signing is a huge statement of intent in our endeavour to become a force in the Gallagher Premiership and Europe over the next three years.”

The 26-year-old has 38 international caps to his name, with his debut coming back in 2014 and he is likely to play a major role for the Springboks in Japan later this year.

He moves to Sale from Super Rugby side, the Bulls. The towering lock previously played for the Cheetahs, where he made 40 appearances.

His signing is expected to be the first of a few international additions to the Sharks’ squad.
