Salford City have clinched the 92nd spot in the Football League following their 3-0 Vanarama National League Promotion Final win over AFC Fylde at Wembley Stadium.

Goals from Mani Dieseruvwe, Carl Piergianni and Ibou Touray were enough to see the Ammies gain promotion to the fourth tier of English football.

The promotion means that Salford are promoted for the fourth time in five years since the Class of 92 acquired the club in 2014, and now face their first ever season in the EFL.

Salford had the better of the chances in the opening exchanges and Dieseruvwe broke the deadlock in the 15th minute after slotting home from seven yards following a free-kick on the edge of the penalty area that snuck through the Fylde defence.

The Ammies applied further pressure after the goal, creating further chances – the best of which came from a corner in the 25th minute with Nathan Pond heading just wide.

Fylde did put up some resistance and they could have equalised in the 32nd minute as Andy Bond fired wide.

Following a flat end to the first half, Salford began the second period the brighter of the two sides and looked dangerous.

Piergianni doubled the Ammies’ lead as he headed home from for yards, latching onto the end of an Touray cross in front of their own fans.

Touray found his name on the scoresheet seven minutes later after his apparent cross found its way into the back of the net via the far post.

Despite being three goals down, Fylde kept rallying in hope of a consolation goal, but were unable to find one as goalkeeper Chris Neal finished the season with a clean sheet.

The victory means that Graham Alexander’s side will enter unchartered territory next season as the club enter professional football for the first time in the club’s 79-year history.
