Old Trafford is readying itself for its third match of the 2019 ICC Cricket World Cup as New Zealand take on the West Indies tomorrow.
With two high-scoring contests at the venue already, Blackcaps paceman Lockie Ferguson is relishing the challenge that lies ahead.
“The boys are taking a lot of confidence from the areas that we’ve been hitting at the start of this competition. Hopefully we can continue that sort of confidence going forward.
“The conditions are nice in England and it’s often suited [to our bowling]. Hopefully the wicket will have pace tomorrow as it’s an exciting place to bowl quick and we’ve seen that across the tournament as every team has impressive fast bowlers.” he added.
Ferguson then said: “It’s been one of those great World Cup where batters and bowlers have been having a really good competition through the whole competition and I’m sure it will continue to go through the rest of the games.”
New Zealand go into this match unbeaten in the tournament so far after a tense run chase against South Africa at Edgbaston on Wednesday which also saw captain Kane Williamson hit an amazing unbeaten 106 to see his side over the line with three balls to spare.
As for the West Indies, they are taking a more relaxed approach heading into the match and even had time for a spot of clay target shooting despite coming under fire from the media.
Captain Jason Holder responded to his critics. He said: “I think the only thing we can do is come and play a solid game of cricket tomorrow against New Zealand.
“I think there’s been enough talk going around for quite some time. I think we’ve done enough talking as a group. It’s just a matter for us to deliver.”
