Construction on the Delaney building at Peel Park accommodation has continued throughout the course of the academic year at the University of Salford.
This has raised questions among many people in the area due to the growing concerns of cladding in the Salford area.
The question has been raised after Pendleton Together announced that they will begin work to replace unsafe cladding on nine Pendleton tower blocks in 2020 after the company found out it used material similar to that of the Grenfell Tower blocks.
Campus Living Villages, who run the buildings at the student accommodation, have released an official statement to those concerned. “Following the tragic incident at Grenfell Tower in London and the attention surrounding the safety of student accommodation we wish to assure you that all of our buildings comply with building regulations, have up to date fire risk assessments and all have emergency systems installed that are suitable for the type of premises and occupants that reside in them.”
“The safety of our residents, staff and visitors is our highest priority and as such we have made the decision to sample every type of cladding material from the facades of our properties and submit for testing. This process has already begun with samples being sent to the Building Research Establishment (BRE).”
Residents at Peel Park don’t seem to be too affected by the construction work. Lucy, a first year who said, “it’s been going on for a few weeks now. It’s not really a problem.”
