Parkinson’s Disease specialist Dr Monty Silverdale will share his expertise in a public talk at Salford Royal Hospital.

Dr Silverdale, who launched the world’s largest study on Parkinson’s disease back in 2013, will give an update on the disorder at the Salford Care Organisation event on December 17.

He will give a free one-hour public lecture on Parkinson’s Past, Present, and Future in the Mayo Building, at midday.

The next decade or two promises to be a very exciting time in Parkinson’s disease research.

Recent years have seen an enormous amount of research into the disorder and very good treatments are now available for many people with the condition.

Back in 2013 Salford Royal and the University of Manchester worked alongside Dr Silverdale on the launch of the world’s largest study into Parkinson’s.

This dealt with the issues of diagnosed patients coping with the effects of chronic pain.

About 150,000 individuals in the UK live with Parkinson’s disease. The lifetime risk of Parkinson’s disease is now 1 in 15.

The world-leading consultant jointly runs the Greater Manchester Parkinson’s disease and Movement Disorder service at Salford Royal.

Having been a neurologist since 2007, he has also been involved in general neurology service in the Cheshire area of Macclesfield as well as Salford Royal.

He has also presented an active role in the Parkinson’s disease research studies and on the World Parkinson’s Disease and Movement Disorder Society Evidence-Based Committee.
