Roughly 35 Greater Manchester Fire & Rescue Service firefighters are currently tackling the blaze on Church Street in Eccles.

Station Manager Ady Taylor, the incident commander on the ground, said: “The situation is under control.

“I want to praise the swift actions of firefighters who are operating in challenging conditions – temperatures are freezing and the ground is slippery underfoot.”

Road closures are still in place between a section of Church Street leading to Liverpool Road. The public have been asked to keep surrounding areas clear for emergency services to attend to the scene.

The fire appears to be well under control now, although a lot of smoke still covers the Eccles area.
